About Mike
I am currently serving my fourth term as Supervisor for the Town of Dickinson;
I have also served four years as Councilman. Since I was elected Supervisor,
Dickinson has realized a tremendous growth in commercial entities such as
Applebee’s, Cracker Barrel, Quiznos, Cold Stone Creamery, Manley’s
Mighty Marts, Marriott-Fairfield Hotel, McDonalds, Extra-Mart, and the Regal
Theaters. The Town approved in 2007, a new 100-unit housing development
off Glenwood Road that may begin construction this year. The town’s
tax rate is one of the lowest in the county. Under my leadership, we eliminated
elected officials’ health benefits while, at the same time, lowering
the cost of health benefits for the employees. We began a beautification
project at all our town gateways that are the envy of Broome County. Through
cooperation with the New York State Transportation Department, Dickinson
is now one of the most walk-able communities in Broome County.
I am originally from the Buffalo area and attended Erie Community College
and SUNY Buffalo and focused my studies in Business Management. I am presently
employed with the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier in the
position of Director of Marketing & Sales.
I served as the Arena Manager of the Broome County Veteran’s Memorial
Arena for five years. In those five years, many improvements were made to
the arena such as sky boxes, new dressing rooms, new energy saving lighting
and ice making systems, new basketball floor, new electronic marquee, new
building façade, landscaping improvements, and new concessionaire
(American Vending). I developed a new arena rental agreement, brought in
major concerts such as Cher, Toby Keith, Champions On Ice, KISS, TOOL, Rascal
Flats, WWE, and much more. Within one year, we were able to bring in an
American Hockey League team, the Binghamton Senators. We developed a major
arena cleanup program and safety improvement program. Throughout all of
this activity was my desire to provide the public with great entertainment
experiences in safe and comfortable surroundings.
I have also served as President of the Broome County Association of Towns & Villages
for two terms and I am currently serving in my second term as Vice-President.
I have also had the privilege to serve as President of the Greater Binghamton
Council of Governments for three terms and I currently serve as Vice-President.
I also serve on the Binghamton Metropolitan Study as a member of the Policy
Committee and enjoy working with a variety of officials in planning and
setting policies for all of our Broome-Tioga Transportation needs. I have
visited every part of Broome County. I’ve worked with all the elected
Town/Village officials regardless of party affiliation. I open doors and
invite new ideas.
I am married to Dot Marinaccio who is the Regional Marketing Coordinator
for VESID, a division of the New York State Department of Education. We
have a son Michael who is entering his senior year at Binghamton High School.
We have lived in Sunrise Terrace, a sub-division of the Town of Dickinson,
since 1987. I have two daughters who are married and live in West Palm Beach,
Florida.
I love it here. I won’t pretend that I have all the answers. I will
tell you the truth. Ever the optimist, I pledge an open, honest and transparent
administration that never forgets that WE work for YOU. |
